A tutored 2 week writing course to get your words flowing, with prompts and exercises leading to short story/poetry and group publication.

About this event

This is a tutored 2 week creative writing course held at Virago Women’s Workshop. The emphasis on all our courses is to create an inspiring, supportive, friendly atmosphere with in which women can express themselves freely, learn and share, and strive to reach their full potential.

Jan 28th 1.30pm-3.00pm & Feb 4th 1.30-3.00pm

Over the 2 Saturday afternoons, you will be given a range of stimulus materials, poems, and extracts to discuss, analyse, and generally mull over. Your own writing may be in response to these prompts or from your own experience. Feedback will always be given if you want it but there will be no pressure to share. By the end of the second afternoon you will be on your way to finishing a short piece of writing, with help and feedback again available once the sessions are over by email.

Virago is publishing a magazine for International Women’s Day 2023, and will include work produced from all our creative workshops.

If self publishing is of interest to you, why not combine this course with our Artist Book and Zine Making session on the 28th in the morning before the your first workshop? Stay for lunch and make a day of it. Or our 4 week evening course on Artists Books beginning on the 31st.

We have a small kitchen and tea and coffee and biscuits will be available throughout.

And please take the opportunity to browse through our Feminist Library and resource archive while you are with us.
